Immersion into Kyrgyzstan by bicycle
Duration: 13 days / 12 nights | Destination: Kyrgyzstan
An Original Journey That Will Convince You to Discover the Fantastic Country of Kyrgyzstan, Inhabited in the 15th Century by a Nomadic People That Originally Emerged 2000 Years Ago in Northeastern Mongolia
Get closer to nature and spontaneously meet shepherds who will share their daily lives with you. Your effort to reach them by bike will be rewarded with meaningful stops where you’ll be offered the traditional drink of friendship — kumis. According to tradition, if you enter a yurt, the host offers a bowl to their guests.
Traveling through these vast wild landscapes, you’ll be transported back to the time of silk caravans crossing the immense steppes. You’ll stay in yurts with our local friends, sharing meals and listening to stories that make you dream and journey back in time. Embark on an adventure: climb passes over 3000 meters high and join the “dzhailoo”, where the herds graze in summer, for a shared and simple happiness.
Technical support will accompany you throughout the day, taking care of infrastructure and transporting your luggage.
Day 1 – Flight Europe → Bishkek
Arrival in Bishkek. Meet your guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel. After some rest, explore the capital of Kyrgyzstan — a city of wide boulevards and marble government buildings next to Soviet-era residential blocks. Gridded streets with narrow irrigation canals water the many trees providing shade in the summer heat. During the city tour, discover the full history of Bishkek from its origins to the present day. A must-see: Bishkek Bazaar, where you’ll find food, clothes, jewelry, and ceramics amid aromatic spice stalls and a colorful crowd. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2 – Bishkek → Burana → Kara Talaa (by vehicle)
After breakfast, we head to Kyrgyzstan’s most famous place — Lake Issyk-Kul, the largest mountain lake in Central Asia, where snowy Tian Shan peaks reflect in turquoise waters. Water temperature is about 22°C in summer, making it perfect for swimming. En route, visit the 11th-century Burana Tower, once a thriving Silk Road city. Nearby is a 7th-century warrior memorial sanctuary — Balbals. Continue toward Boom Gorge and set up our first bivouac. Prepare bikes for the journey ahead.
Day 3 – Kara Talaa → Kochkor (64 km by bike)
We follow a carefully chosen route away from busy roads, cycling on dirt tracks through fields and desert with a mountain backdrop — roads forgotten by time. We’ll encounter balbal funerary stones. At day’s end, we reach a village near our bivouac. Visit a folk art museum and participate in felt rug-making. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 4 – Kochkor → Ak Tash (85 km by bike)
After breakfast, a gentle ride begins. We leave Kochkor on a small paved road before joining trails leading into the Tian Shan mountains, meeting shepherds still living the nomadic lifestyle of centuries past. The trail leads through canyons toward mountain passes. We finish at the next bivouac for a well-earned rest — the start of our physical challenge.
Day 5 – Ak Tash → Eki Naryn (77 km by bike)
Today we journey through an exceptionally scenic landscape. We climb to the highest point: Jalpak Bel Pass (3348 m), offering spectacular views. The highest peak in the Kyrgyz Tian Shan, Peak Pobeda, rises to 7437 m. We descend on rocky roads to our next mountain camp.
Day 6 – Eki Naryn → Emgek Talaa (100 km by bike)
A long day of 100 km across dirt and asphalt roads, rising and falling through impressive hills and mountains. We meet nomadic herders and may stop by their yurts to share moments through our guide. We pass Naryn, a small mountain town, before returning to camp.
Day 7 – Emgek Talaa → Kurtka (81 km by bike)
A lighter, shorter day riding through green valleys and gentle hills. We end in the picturesque village of Kurtka, hosted by local families. Traditional dinner and overnight homestay.
Day 8 – Kurtka → South Son-Kul Lake (55 km by bike)
After breakfast, we head uphill to a 3225 m pass, overlooking Son-Kul Lake (3016 m), a seasonal pastureland for nomadic herders. Arriving in the heart of traditional, unchanged Kyrgyzstan, you’ll be welcomed into a yurt, offered kumis, and spend the night in a yurt camp with dinner.
Day 9 – Son-Kul: Relaxation Day
A full day of rest. Learn about nomadic life: help make kumis, shape traditional mountain cheeses, or ride horses across the wide plains, reliving the days of galloping horsemen. Or simply relax on Kyrgyz rugs, soaking in the silence. Overnight in a yurt.
Day 10 – South → North Son-Kul (59 km by bike)
A scenic ride around the lake, passing yurt camps and enjoying serene views. We arrive at another camp in the evening for dinner and overnight in a yurt.
Day 11 – North Son-Kul → Kara Keche Pass (81 km by bike)
We head toward the Kara Keche Pass (3364 m), a manageable effort since we’re already at 3050 m. Stunning panoramas return as we descend into camp for a restorative meal and night.
Day 12 – Kara Keche → Kyzyl-Korgon (71 km by bike)
Our final stage descends into the Kyzyl-Korgon Gorge, the “Red Mountains.” We ride through otherworldly, lunar landscapes alongside a river, passing small rural villages untouched by tourism. We camp by the river one last time.
Day 13 – Kyzyl-Korgon → Bishkek (by vehicle)
Transfer back to Bishkek, passing through Too Ashuu Pass (over 3000 m) — one of the most beautiful roads in Kyrgyzstan. Time for last-minute souvenir shopping at the bazaar. Around 8 p.m., farewell dinner in Bishkek. Overnight at the hotel and early morning airport transfer.
