Tajik Epic

Trek in the Fann Mountains
Duration: 18 days | Destination: Tajikistan and Uzbekistan

Tajikistan: The Land of High Mountains and Lakes

The Fann Mountains are part of the mountain ranges extending through the Pamir-Alay and are less frequented by Western travelers. Located less than a day’s drive from Samarkand, this region is accessible by crossing the Uzbek-Tajik border and visiting the ruins of Penjikent (5th–8th centuries), one of the oldest cities of the historical region of Maverannahr.

Khujand is the starting point of your adventure. Traveling by 4×4 through the Turkestan and Zeravshan valleys, you’ll admire stunning nature and hospitable mountain villages. A mule caravan will accompany hikers along the trail to the summit of Chimtarga Peak (5,840 m), with breathtaking views of Lake Kulikalon. Along the way, you’ll experience the legendary hospitality of local shepherds who welcome you with traditional yogurt.
